With the World Baseball Classic starting in two weeks, every team’s uniforms have been revealed by now. Some are nice, some are… ugly, so I’ve decided to rank all of them.
Please note, this article is not intended to be political in any sort of meaning, it is about baseball, nothing else.
20. Israel
They’re quite boring, aren’t they? The font and colors don’t match to well, and they’re kind of just boring. Seems like a boring uniform, with colors and fonts that don’t match to well. the R and A just looks like a line got cut through them.
The homes are really bad, but the aways could easily be tweaked by changing the way colours are used and the fonts.
19. Great Britan
I mean, it’s better than the awful ones that were used during the 2023 tournament. I think the aways are nice, but my only gist is the fonts used. Is there reasoning behind it? I’m not sure. But I think it’s boring… it seems like they just pasted Arial font on there and called it a day. I do like the colours, though I think the aways would look better if they were blue.
18. Chinese Taipei (Taiwan)
I think both are just a bit bland. Maybe some numbers on the front of the jersey, or just something other than the logo would give the jersey a bit more character. The colours are nice, but I would like to see some red accents on the home jersey.
Side note, I like the seams on the C for the “Chinese Taipei” logo.
17. Canada
I mean, their not horrible, but there’s room more improvement. I would love to see more Canadian references such as the maple leaf on the jersey. The font is poorly used, as it is kind of hard to read. I do love the hats though, it is something I may buy in the future.
I wish it took more inspiration from some of the Canadian hockey jerseys. Some of those are sick.
16. Brazil
I genuinely think these are pretty decent. I think the homes could use a bit more colour for how many colours Brazil has, instead of just blue and white. Also, wouldn’t a yellow jersey like the soccer team uses as the aways be awesome? Other than that, I think these are pretty decent jerseys. The hats are a bit bland, but I think it’s well executed in simplicity.
15. Columbia
The lettering font is fairly unique, but I like it. It’s simple and minimalistic but also unique. The colours are nice, it represents the country well. I also like the hats, maybe navy blue would work better as the base colours, but it’s nice. I do love the C logo. Gives Japanese high school ball vibes.
14. Nicaragua
I wish there was a third colour accent, but these are nice otherwise. I’m not a bit fan of the hat logo either. Also, the lettering is nice but the placement seems poor. It seems really small, doesn’t it? Overall, not a horrible uniform, but there is missed potential.
13. Italy
I think these are good, but very simple. I would like to see green and red used more on the jersey instead of just blue, so that was a disappointment in that regard. The hat is also extremely boring. The lettering is really nice, but again, I think the fact that the only colour used on both jersey being blue is extremely boring. Again, its not a bad uniform, but just misses out on a lot of potential. The blue on blue is nice, but it feels like missed opportunity.
12. Netherlands
I actually like the colours on this, and the way the piping cuts off before the lettering.
The hat logo is nice too, and I like the way the orange stands out on the black/navy blue (I cant tell)
My one problem is the tiny script font above the lettering. I can barely read it, and it just feels forced and doesn’t really look good.
11. Venezuela
I understand the use for wanting to put the national colours, but doesn’t it seem poorly used? It just feels like the lettering was just pasted in there from another jersey, and it doesn’t really fit.
Last WBC’s Venezuela’s uniforms were put together really nicely with tough colours to combine… this one just doesn’t cut it for me.
The hat logo is really nice, the V really stands out. They do actually use the colours well on this hat.
10. Cuba
The home uniforms are definitely very nice, but I’m not a big fan of the away uniforms. I kind of wish there was some blue on the away unforms, but the all red isn’t horrible. Seeing all that red is just a bit hard on the eyes, but I love the way they pop. (Although, my MLB team does have a all red and white jersey, so can I really be talking?) The script logo is awesome though.
I do think the hats are pretty solid. I like the star they have next to the C.
9. Puerto Rico
I’m not a big fan of the lettering on the home whites, as I think the red lettering on red piping is a bit weird, I do like the font and overall style of it though. The away uniforms in my opinion are very nice, and the hats are simple yet good looking.
It’s a bit cluttered though, but I still do think it looks nice.
Wouldn’t some stripes look cool though to represent the stripes on the flag? I don’t know how you implement that though.
8. Dominican Republic
This gets as high as it is because of the hats. That is genuinely one of the nicest hats I have ever seen.
Again with the Dutch, I’m not a fan of the tiny script font above the main lettering. I had to squint my eyes just to see what that was.
Other than that, it’s a nice uniform. It’s just that tiny script font that kind of annoys me.
7. USA
Extremely simple, yet I think these are pretty nice. The colours work together, I love the big “USA” logo on the front, but maybe add some stars to the jersey? Or just find a way to implement them. I dunno.
The hats are cool. I like the “US” logo with the star in the back.
6. Panama
The hat logo is awesome, it’s simple yet stands out. I’ve always been a fan of the block type font. I absolutely love the lettering and script. It stands out, and it is so simple yet so clean. The away uniforms are nice too. Similar to Cuba, but they incorporate some navy blue.
5. Czech Republic
Hot take… I know. But this just simplicity executed perfectly. The bold font, the clean colours, especially the away uniforms. It’s so simple, yet so clean. And yes, I know I stan a bit to hard for block type fonts.
The reason I had them so high is because of the hat logo. The CR shaped like home plate is so clean and so well designed.
4. Mexico
First of all, I love the colours on this uniform. They really pop out and do a great job of representing the national colours. The lettering on the home jersey looks a bit off? It’s just the placement. Also, I do love the font used, it’s super clean yet also has so much character. The away green uniforms are really clean and crisp though. The hats are nice. Simple, and clean.
3. Korea
Everything about this uniform is so clean and crisp, yet is so well designed. The colours match well with each other, and I absolutely love the script font and the way its shaped. The overall design of the uniform is clean, the colours compliment eachother, and it just is really well executed.
The hat logo is pretty awesome too. Nice and simple.
2. Japan
The fact that they aren’t the only Nike uniforms singlehandedly gets them this high up. I like pinstripes, and I think they are well executed there. For me, it’s simply just the uniqueness of these which gains these so high.
The away uniforms are pretty nice too. I like the gradients.
It’s not in this image, but the hats are iconic as usual. I might pick one up when I go to Japan this summer.
1. Australia
It’s perfect. The colours, the little details, the hat logo, everything about this uniform is so well designed and places. It’s unique, yet simple and doesn’t overload your eyes. The little star underneath the “Australia” logo, and the little stars above the “A” logo is cool.
On a side note… what the hell Fanatics and Nike?
Fanatics has been really controversial recently. Especially with the MLB uniforms, the prices they charge, and the quality of them.
I was looking at team Canada gear, more specifically a hat, when I saw the prices.
Also, these are prices in CAD. So for all you Americans out there… just convert the currency. What’s interesting is that the quality of the uniforms is probably pretty weak. And 64 bucks for a hat? I might have to use DHGate, and I hate buying fakes.
The problem is that Fanatics has a monopoly on this, so good luck finding this anywhere else… they know they can upcharge because people will buy this.
When making this article, I realized something. All the uniforms, except for Japan as they use Mizuno are the exact same template.
Doing a bit of research, I realized that it was Nike who designed these uniforms. Learning that they used the exact same jersey template for every country just feels lazy and boring. The WBC is baseball’s equivalent of the World Cup, and yes, while it is not as big in size, it is still a huge deal for baseball fans. Imagine if all the World Cup countries has the same kit, just different fonts and colours.
Shouldn’t Nike do better? They had so much time to design these uniforms, yet they just used the same template for every team. It’s a insult to baseball fans, the players, and countries that instead of getting a uniform that represents it’s culture, values, traditions, they just get a boring standard template.
